I think the strobe mode is pretty usefull for (tactical) self-defense at night, because you are disorienting your assailant. I mean... some quick bursts of ledlight in your eyes in a dark environment...

I've found opinions of some LEOs on other forums, it seems like powerful strobe offers you a tactical advantage of only a second or two over a determined assailant in a pitch dark environment. After that, you're on your own.

My own experience in traffic tells me that strobe still offers you a chance to be seen in difficult lighting situations (dusk, fog, rain, unlit city streets).

Cheers,

Tam

Tam, I know... but those seconds are valuable for a trained person. That's why I prefer it. Of course it also has the valuable points that you are mentioning. I mean, i have never used my flashlight in a self-defense situation, but i did use it in a house filled with thick smoke.

lol, I love strobe mode.

I have a NexTorch- MyTORCH 70 Lumen Digital Flashlight.
It's pretty awesome, It hooks up to my computer and I can program in how fast it strobes and also Morse Code! I love this feature.

If you can program it, set it to 11Hz strobe, it's supposed to cause nausea and vomiting.

Random strobe is my favourite, some true tactical lights have this feature. Some guys uploaded a vid to Youtube showing them turning a Fenix TK series flashlight on a full random strobe inside a car at night, causing other drivers to pull over during a traffic jam. When I find this clip, I'll post the link. This is certainly not what I'd recommend...
