Zebralight H51 vs Zebralight H51w

From the all I have, I think my favourite is the Zebralight H51:

200 lumens OTF with only a AA battery (LSD NiMh). Although I am thinking about buying the white neutral version called Zebralight H51w (only 172 lumens OTF):

Which one of the two you like the most?

I wish I had one of those, great light(s) and tint doesn't matter Huh 2

IMO neutral white is a good choice for outdoors (better colour rendition and so on..), besides you won't notice the difference between 172 and 200lm easily, human eye is not so perfect.

Tam

If you don't have it yet I really recommend it, it's not too big (granted, it could be more little) and it provides a lot of runtime and very bright modes with just a single AA cell that you can buy almost everywhere.

Thanks, I also think neutral white is better but I am not sure if I have any. I think so because I have so many flashlights and many of them have different tint that at least one must have neutral one Big Grin hehehe.

I still prefer colour from incandescent light (and they usually have better throw too), they are very special. But they have very low runtime sadly and a bunch of other disadvantages Sad

Are ZL H51's pure wide-angle flood lights or have a narrow/diffuse beam option?

Cheers,

Tam

Sorry I am not sure what do you mean?

You can buy diffused (flood) version called H51F (neutral white one called H51Fw) that it just has a glass sanded down (well it's not sanded down, it's kind of rugged). But you can't reverse that option, so I still prefer H51 version and you can make a workaround to diffuse the beam (using Fenix filters, for example, or even white paper) whenever you want and removing it when you don't.

Here you have a link to H51F (as you can see is like H51 but with glass diffused): http://www.zebralight.com/H51F-AA-Floody..._p_44.html

The floody and neutral white is here: http://www.zebralight.com/H51Fw-AA-Flood..._p_47.html

Ahh, I get it now, thanks for the explanation. There are two beam options to choose from... I thought there was a sort of a flip diffuser (Tikka XP1-like) or a focusing bezel.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Cheers,

Tam

No, they don't have that kind of focusable system sadly but maybe it's better like they are now, I don't know. I think it's a personal preference.

You can make yourself a workaround to have a flip up diffuser. For example you can see this one here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/show...y-diffuser

But in that post they are using the old version of the Fenix AD401 diffuser. The newer version is worse to my eyes as it doesn't have the ring opened but closed so it's harder to make it fit in wider flashlights. You can see the new version here: http://www.dealextreme.com/feedbacks/bro...1~id.80421

I am not sure if the new version will work for the Zebralight H51, I don't think so unless you modify it even more Sad

I've read on a dedicated forum that Zebras have reliability issues. I'm rethinking if that'l be really best buy...
