Glock 26 Review

There are plenty reviews of the 3rd generation Glock 26 so I just want to highlight some points that impressed me after reviewing the gun. If you are in the market for a 9mm/40S&W sub compact, I would narrow it down to either the Glock 26/27 or Springfield Armory's XD.

The Finish
Glock uses a Tenifer process to the slide before it's Parkerized. Tenifer protects the slide from corrosion, it's 99.9% salt water corrosion resistant. Looking closely at it, the finish is really nice. After handling the gun, I didn't see my finger prints all over the gun. It has a very nice even matte finish. I think the Glock finish is superior to the SA XD finish.

Trigger/Cocked Indicator
I don't know what Glock calls this feature but I like it. When the gun is not cocked, the trigger sits all the way back toward the grip and stays that way. The trigger will move forward only after you rack the slide. I can look at a Glock from 10 feet away and tell if it's cocked or not. The XD has a pin on the back of slide that protrudes when the gun is cocked so you can feel it in low or no light conditions.

Feel
The Glock 26 feels great in the hands with the magazine extension. Initially I thought it felt balanced and not top heavy but the XD feels more balanced. Concealing both the Glock 26 and XD with an IWB Blade-Tech holster is as easy and as comfortable as it gets. They are both the perfect sized 9mm/40S&W sub compact guns.

Racking the slide on the Glock is easier than the XD. It requires less force to pull the slide back. I prefer the metal trigger on the XD. As far as trigger pull, I'm used to the XD so I won't comment on which I prefer. The Glock's trigger pull was lighter but it wasn't that noticeable to me.
Conclusions
You can't go wrong with either the Glock 26 or XD. I think it comes down to individual preference to Glock or Springfield Armory. The Glock seems to be a little more refined than the XD with it's finish and when reassembling the gun. The XD has the added grip safety feature that Glock lacks but no one can say how effective that safety is in preventing accidental discharge.
