I am currently making a knife out of a truck suspension leaf spring. I will post a picture when it is completed.

Cool!

Leaf springs and old files are cheap as dirt and steel is perfectly suitable for home knifemaking, you really don't need high-tech steels for that... Sadly I live in an appartment building, so home forging (or even stock removal on a larger scale) is completely out of question, bahSad

I wish you best of luck with your leaf spring knife project.

Cheers

This piece of leaf spring steel is .345 " thick and quite difficult to cut. .345 inches = 8.76300 millimeters thick steel.

People say that one picture says a thousand words, but give us some comments anywaysSmile

I can see that you've made bevels on the blade. Which tool did you use?

Cheers,

Tam

I used a 1" x 30" and a 4" x 36" belt sander. A 4.5" angle grinder for the jimping. It's a crude blade, but fun to make.

One year later: this knife has held up well. It is virtually indestructible, and with the handle design, can punch through anything.
