This is my Fenix E01 with worn out anodising, LD01 clip and a custom ring. Nothing special, really.

And now, take a closer look at the LED and reflector (above): both are sanded to provide more spill and to elliminate ugly blue hotspot.

This is how it looks on the white wall:

PS: toroid is my nick from light-reviews forum.

Complete mod log is here (archived)

Cheers,

Thanks for your idea! I personally prefer the default configuration but I am sure that those who want a more diffused beam will appreciate it very much. I would prefer to use an extra diffuser attached to the flashlight though.

That's the way to go, indeed.

A user from CPF recently advised me to stick a piece of plain frosted (K55) self-adhesive Deco film in front of the E01's LED. Similar stuff is available in office supply and diy stores. Cool and reversible mod!

Fortunately E01 is cheap enough to serve as a torture and mod platform Knife2

Cheers,

Tam

That sounds like a good idea! Is just a film kind of a tape that is easy to cut? does it have glue? Maybe I will try this trick, thanks Big Grin

That's the type of common frosted film (foil) which is used on the glass panes when you need to make them translucent .

It's sold in rolls which are 50-55cm wide, and it's easily cut with scissors or a box cutter. It has a glue on the reverse side (hence the "self-adhesive"), and a peel-off waxy backing paper. You must have seen it. There are also ballistic, decorative, sun-filtering films, etc.

Cheers,

Tam

Thanks, I think I already know what is Smile Here are sold in shops specialized in "DIY" (Do it Yourself) where they sell many things as shelves, tools, threads, paint, glue, etc.

It sounds like a good solution to change from flood to throw/less flood easily Big Grin Next time I visit one of that shops I will look for them!

RE: Diffuser cap for Fenix E01 (pic-heavy)

Here's the removable diffuser for Fenix E01. Makes more sense than the LED sanding job.

I've modified a plastic cap (drilled the top of the cap and stripped the threads with Dremel sanding drum to fit the E01 head), inserted a round patch of d-c-fix frosted translucent film and put some 19mm black shrink tubing over it.

Cap and bottle (a hair care product, actually):

The finished diffuser:

Test beamshot (without diffuser): note the typical Nichia GS purple hotspot:

With diffuser ("center-weighted" soft beam, however still a bit purple-ish):

Shrink tubing prevents glare (plastic cap is translucent white) and adds to overall aesthetics. Now the humble E01 looks so... tactical. No strobe, though Tongue
