I started using a straight razor about 15 years ago and I won't let anything else touch my face. It can be a real chore to properly learn to use and care for a "real" razor but one you become familiar with it, nothing else compares. I will admit that in the last few years I've gotten lazy and started using a replaceable blade razor. The new Feather Razor is made in Japan and is a real piece of craftsmanship and engineering. It is available a many places online as well as an assortment of blades. Starting price is over one hundred dollars, so it's not cheap but it is something your grandkids will be able to use after you are on the other side of the dirt.

Just wondering if anyone else still gets a straight Razor shave?

I've inherited a beautiful old French made straight razor (complete with a vintage brush and a leather strop) from my great-grandfather, who used to work for French Railways back in the 1920's.

I've learned to sharpen it properly but have actually tried it on my beard only once or twice while I was younger.

Now I'm in my forties and I'm using twin-blade disposables with Aloe vera since I have very sensitive skin. They're also much safer, he he.

Straight razors and cigars are for manly, old school, Hemingway-style guys which I'm unfortunately notWink

Cheers,

Tam

Actually, the sensitive skin is what turned me to the straight razor. The modern razors left my face burnt and rashed.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It took me several years to find a brand of razors and after shave balm to suit my difficult skin. In the meantime I've tried some world famous brands which brought me on the verge of a dermatological emergency.

My choice has eventually narrowed to Gilette Blue II Plus razors (with Aloe vera strip) and Nivea's White collection (alcohol-free, for sensitive skin). Nothing fancy, but it works like a charm for me.

Cheers,

Tam
